About the position

The Field Service Engineer position at Sartorius involves delivering system installations, commissioning, calibration, preventative maintenance, and repairs on Sartorius's product range. This role is field-based, requiring the engineer to work in customer labs and adhere to health and safety requirements. The position is primarily located in the Houston, TX or Chicago, IL area, with travel expected throughout Central North America.

Responsibilities

  • Installation & commissioning, calibration, preventative maintenance, and break/fix repairs across a range of Bioreactor systems
  • Maintain fault finding data and feedback product performance data to customers and internal groups
  • Follow service procedures to ensure customer information and product software/configuration is accurate
  • Keep accurate records of time, expenses, and work performed
  • Make independent decisions regarding the repair of field equipment based on service level agreements
  • Acquire in-depth product knowledge and continually expand upon that knowledge
  • Escalate unresolved system issues to relevant support engineers
  • Travel up to approximately 80% primarily within assigned territory

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or equivalent military/trade school certificates
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in a commissioning/test or field service/support environment
  • Experience with electrical, mechanical & I/O fault-finding at system and component level
  • Understanding of automatic mechanisms and their associated electrical control systems
  • Good understanding of mechanical and electrical schematics and drawings
  • Working knowledge of software and firmware installation and testing
  • Ability to effectively train customers on best practices and maintain good relationships
  • Hands-on experience with robotics, motors, conveyor systems, and electromechanical assemblies
  • Must be competent in measuring AC/DC voltages
  • Computer literate and familiar with MS Office
  • Ability to communicate effectively and establish positive relationships
  • Ability to troubleshoot and problem solve issues
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Requires lifting up to 50 lbs occasionally and/or up to 20 lbs frequently

Nice-to-haves

  • Calibration of control systems
  • Knowledge of clean room protocols and GMP environments
  • Understanding of both Mammalian and Microbial cell cultures
  • Experience of configuring PCs and installing software packages
