About the position

The Field Service Engineer (FSE) Summer Intern position at Thermo Fisher Scientific is an integral part of the Instrument and Enterprise Services Division (IES), which comprises approximately 3,000 colleagues. This internship is designed as part of an 'Early Talent Strategy' aimed at cultivating a pipeline of engineering talent specifically for Field Services. The selected interns will have the opportunity to engage with experienced Field Service Engineers, gaining invaluable insights and practical knowledge about the intricacies of the business and the dedication required to deliver exceptional service to customers in the field. Interns will be expected to visit various customer sites within a 40-mile radius of their home base in Madison, WI, and will also have the chance to participate in 'ride-along' experiences with seasoned FSEs. The internship will last for 12 weeks, starting on June 4, 2025, and concluding around August 20, 2025. Interns will work full-time, dedicating 40 hours per week to the program. Throughout the internship, participants will undertake a specific project related to the Field Service Engineering business, allowing them to apply their skills to real-world challenges. They will also have the opportunity to present their project findings to the Divisional Leadership Team, showcasing their growth and networking within the company. Additionally, interns will engage in a meaningful volunteer project within their local community, contributing to a cause that aligns with Thermo Fisher's values. This internship not only provides hands-on experience but also serves as a potential pathway to a full-time position as a Field Service Engineer upon graduation.

Responsibilities

  • Observe and learn from experienced Field Service Engineers to gain practical knowledge.
  • Complete a specific project linked to the Field Service Engineering business.
  • Showcase project findings and experiences to the Divisional Leadership Team.
  • Engage in a volunteer project within the local community.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university pursuing a bachelor's degree in engineering, returning as a rising Senior.
  • Preferred fields of study include Chemistry, Science, or a related field.
  • Satisfactory academic record and good standing at the college or university, maintaining a satisfactory GPA.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States without requiring sponsorship.

Nice-to-haves

  • Customer service work experience.
  • Engineering, Robotics, and/or IT work experience.
