About the position

The 2025 Field Service Engineer (FSE) Summer Intern position is part of the Instrument and Enterprise Services Division (IES) at Thermo Fisher Scientific, which comprises about 3,000 colleagues. This division is known for its premier brand, Unity Lab Services, and offers customized service solutions through its Field Service team. The team is dedicated to addressing customer needs, whether they require service on a single instrument or comprehensive resources to manage service and support for their labs. This internship is part of an 'Early Talent Strategy' aimed at building a pipeline of engineering talent for Field Services. We are seeking motivated Summer Interns who are interested in pursuing a career in engineering and are passionate about delivering exceptional service to customers in the field. Upon graduation, interns will be eligible to apply for a full-time Field Service Engineer position, launching their careers in Field Service Engineering. Interns will work remotely based in the Raleigh, NC region and will visit various customer sites, which are typically less than 40 miles from their homes. The internship will last for 12 weeks, starting on June 4, 2025, and ending around August 20, 2025. Interns will be part of a cohort and will engage in four major components during their internship: observing and learning from experienced Field Service Engineers, working on a specific project related to Field Service Engineering, showcasing their project findings to the Divisional Leadership Team, and participating in a meaningful volunteer project within the local community. This internship offers invaluable insights and practical knowledge, allowing interns to contribute to real-world challenges in Field Services while also making a positive impact in their communities.

Responsibilities

  • Observe and learn from experienced Field Service Engineers to gain insights into the business.
  • Take on a specific project linked to the Field Service Engineering business and apply skills to real-world challenges.
  • Showcase project findings and share experiences with the Divisional Leadership Team.
  • Engage in a meaningful one-day volunteer project within the local community.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university pursuing a bachelor's degree in engineering, returning as a rising Senior.
  • Preferred fields include Chemistry, Science, or a related field.
  • Must have a satisfactory academic record and be in good standing at their college or university.

Nice-to-haves

  • Customer Service work experience is a plus.
  • Engineering, Robotics, and/or IT work experience is a plus.
