About the position

The 2025 Field Service Engineer (FSE) Summer Intern position is part of the Instrument and Enterprise Services Division (IES) at Thermo Fisher Scientific, which comprises about 3,000 colleagues. This division, through its premier brand Unity Lab Services, provides customized service solutions and world-class expertise to meet customer needs. The Field Service team is dedicated to delivering exceptional service, whether it involves arranging service for a single instrument or managing comprehensive support for entire labs. This internship is part of an 'Early Talent Strategy' aimed at building a pipeline of engineering talent for Field Services. We are seeking motivated Summer Interns who are passionate about engineering and committed to providing outstanding service to customers in the field. Upon graduation, interns will have the opportunity to apply for full-time Field Service Engineer positions, launching their careers in this dynamic field. Interns will work remotely based in the Raleigh, NC region and will visit various customer sites, which are typically within 40 miles of their home. The internship will last for 12 weeks, starting on June 4, 2025, and concluding around August 20, 2025. Interns will be part of a cohort, gaining invaluable insights and practical knowledge by observing experienced Field Service Engineers. They will engage in a specific project related to the Field Service Engineering business, allowing them to apply their skills to real-world challenges. Additionally, interns will have the opportunity to showcase their project findings to the Divisional Leadership Team, enhancing their networking and professional growth. A meaningful one-day volunteer project within the local community will also be part of the internship experience, aligning with the company's values and making a positive impact beyond the internship.

Responsibilities

  • Observe and learn from experienced Field Service Engineers to gain insights into the business.
  • Complete a specific project linked to the Field Service Engineering business.
  • Present project findings and experiences to the Divisional Leadership Team.
  • Participate in a one-day volunteer project in the local community.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university pursuing a bachelor's degree in engineering, returning as a rising Senior.
  • Preferred fields include Chemistry, Science, or a related field.
  • Must have a satisfactory academic record and be in good standing at their college or university.

Nice-to-haves

  • Customer Service work experience is a plus.
  • Engineering, Robotics, and/or IT work experience is a plus.
