About the position

The Field Service Engineer at SP Industries is responsible for the service, maintenance, repair, testing, and calibration of complex scientific equipment. This role requires extensive travel to customer locations and involves working independently with minimal supervision. The engineer will provide technical support, troubleshoot equipment issues, and ensure customer satisfaction through effective communication and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Service, maintain, repair, test, and calibrate complex equipment with minimal supervision.
• Perform mid-level to advanced customer support activities including equipment installation, troubleshooting, and repair.
• Supervise and execute field installation and testing of equipment.
• Provide customer technical support via phone, online, or in the field, acting as the single point of contact for customers.
• Maintain broad equipment, process, and manufacturing knowledge critical to supporting equipment.
• Work independently with minimal technical supervision.
• Autonomously troubleshoot various models of SP Scientific Equipment.

Requirements

• Experience in refrigeration, compressors, and systems.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic schematics.
• Experience with troubleshooting and repair of freeze-dryers is a plus.
• AAS in electrical, mechanical, or mechanic disciplines or equivalent work experience.
• Refrigeration (EPA Universal Card).
• Basic understanding of PLC Controls including ladder logic.
• Familiarity and use of test equipment and hand tools.
• Plumbing skills including piping and brazing.
• Electrical/Electronic knowledge and mechanical skills.
• Computer skills.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with complex mechanical assemblies.
• Ability to perform manufacturing processes such as brazing and welding.
• Understanding of technical instructions, schematics, blueprints, and specifications.
