About the position

Hitachi Energy is seeking a Field Service Engineer to join the Power Grids Grid Integration Service North America team. This role focuses on supporting the SunZia HVDC link transmission project, which connects wind farms in New Mexico to the power grid in Arizona and Southern California. The engineer will be involved in the development, commissioning, and service of an HVDC converter station, requiring temporary relocation to Sweden for training and subsequent commissioning activities in the USA.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare list/schedules for technical deliverables
  • Prepare C&P drawings
  • Develop C&P software applications for HVDC based on requirement specifications
  • Participate in progress review meetings
  • Interact with team members from different fields (C&P, Project management, procurement, documentation, environment, health and safety, construction, etc.)
  • Produce wiring and connection diagram
  • Prepare drawing lots for commissioning
  • Prepare instructions for test records (ITRs)
  • Prepare software revision orders based on test results
  • Participate in laboratory testing and FST (Sweden)
  • Participate in all commissioning activities (USA)
  • Manage and participate in all service activities (USA)

Requirements

  • Degree in electrical, mechanical, or network engineering (preferences with power system concentration)
  • Candidate must already have work authorization that would permit them to work for Hitachi Energy in the United States
  • Good knowledge of related products
  • Knowledge of electrical standards (ANSI, CSA, CEI, etc.)
  • Good skills in communication, leadership and initiative
  • Critical thinking and analysis
  • Detail oriented, organization skills, flexibility and autonomy
  • Understanding of computer tools required to complete tasks
  • Availability to travel in US and abroad
