About the position

Mirion Technologies is seeking a highly motivated Field Service Engineer who will execute customer support activities involving the installation, modification, and repair of complex nuclear measurement equipment and systems with limited supervision. This role is critical in ensuring that our customers receive the highest level of service and support for their nuclear measurement needs. The Field Service Engineer will conduct on-site installations of complex nuclear measurement equipment and systems, focusing on the setup and configuration of Mirion (Canberra) hardware and software. Utilizing established testing procedures and training, the engineer will ensure the proper functioning of the systems and provide familiarization to the customer on the system hardware and software, including its basic modes of operation. In addition to installation, the Field Service Engineer will troubleshoot and isolate equipment malfunctions, taking corrective actions as necessary. This involves analyzing hardware or software issues and working closely with Technical Support and Engineering teams to locate and correct system faults. The engineer will also be responsible for completing Field Reports and logs to ensure that all work performed is properly documented and that any problems encountered in the field are reported and addressed promptly. A key aspect of this role is to provide a professional representation of the company in all dealings with customers, creating a positive experience and fostering strong customer relationships. Additional duties include in-house troubleshooting and repair, as well as providing technical support via phone and email. The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical acumen, preferably with a background in electronics, mechanical engineering, or science/physics, and will demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills, organizational abilities, and a disciplined, self-starter attitude. The role requires the ability to lift at least 50 pounds and entails approximately 70% regional travel, necessitating a valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct on-site installation of complex nuclear measurement equipment and systems.
  • Focus on the setup/configuration of Mirion (Canberra) hardware and software.
  • Provide familiarization to the customer on system hardware/software and its basic modes of operation.
  • Troubleshoot and isolate equipment malfunctions and take corrective actions.
  • Analyze hardware or software issues and work closely with Technical Support and Engineering to locate and correct system faults.
  • Complete Field Reports and logs to ensure work performed is properly documented.
  • Provide professional representation of the Company in all dealings with customers.

Requirements

  • Technical acumen, preferably in electronics, mechanical engineering, or science/physics background.
  • Very good verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills, typing/keyboarding skills, and written reporting skills.
  • Self-starter with an enthusiastic, entrepreneurial spirit, able to work alone or with a team.
  • Logical and analytical approach to solving complex problems.
  • Understanding and adherence to all safety policies on the job.
  • Ability to lift at least 50+ pounds.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge and proficiency of Mirion (Canberra) products such as High Purity Germanium (HPGe) Detectors, Sodium Iodide (NaI) detectors, and Alpha Beta Counting Systems.
  • Experience using Mirion (Canberra) applications such as Genie 2000, Apex Gamma, Apex In-Vivo, Eclipse, and Apex-Alpha/Beta software.
  • Database management experience using SQL Server, Crystal Reports, and/or Access.
  • Knowledge and experience in Nuclear Physics and Radiation Principles.
  • Understanding of Gamma Spectroscopy, Alpha/Beta Counting, and radiation detection principles.
  • Experience in complex system troubleshooting to resolution at modular and/or component level.
