About the position

Instron is a global organization that designs, manufactures, sells, and services materials testing systems. Our systems are trusted by 95% of the world's largest manufacturing companies to gather critical data, informing the design of materials and components. We are seeking a highly motivated Field Service Engineer who will reflect Instron's commitment to customer satisfaction. This position will be based from home in the Salt Lake City, UT area, with daily travel to customer sites to perform a variety of services including calibration, preventative maintenance, repair, and installation on a wide range of Instron's products. The successful candidate will be responsible for submitting daily and weekly field reports, documenting all activities at customer sites, as well as weekly and monthly expense reports. Ensuring safe job practices are followed is paramount, and the engineer will have regional responsibility for servicing customers in the greater Salt Lake City area. This role requires up to 40% overnight travel, with some occasional travel to other locations in the US as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Travel daily to customer sites to perform calibration, preventative maintenance, repair, and installation on Instron's products.
  • Submit daily and weekly field reports documenting all activities at customer sites.
  • Prepare weekly and monthly expense reports.
  • Ensure safe job practices are followed during all service activities.
  • Maintain regional responsibility for servicing customers in the greater Salt Lake City area.
  • Manage time effectively to meet customer needs and service schedules.

Requirements

  • 2- or 4-year technical degree from an accredited university and knowledge of electro-mechanical systems, or equivalent military/trade school training.
  • Ability to read, comprehend, and interpret basic technical information involving mechanics and electronics.
  • Familiarity with PCs, including operating systems and Windows applications.
  • High level of autonomy, superior organizational, time management, and customer service skills.
  • Prior field service experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience performing preventative or corrective maintenance on servo hydraulic systems preferred.
  • Experience with materials testing preferred, but not required.
  • Experience delivering hands-on and classroom training on technical topics preferred.
  • Automation systems experience is a plus.
