About the position

The Field Service Engineer at ATS Scientific Products is responsible for the service, maintenance, repair, testing, and calibration of complex equipment with minimal supervision. This role requires extensive travel to customer locations and involves providing technical support, troubleshooting, and installation of equipment. The engineer will work independently and must possess a strong understanding of refrigeration systems and mechanical assemblies.

Responsibilities

  • Service, maintain, repair, test, and calibrate complex equipment with minimal supervision.
  • Perform mid-level to advanced customer support activities including equipment installation, troubleshooting, and repair.
  • Supervise and execute field installation and testing of equipment.
  • Provide customer technical support via phone, online, or in the field, acting as the single point of contact.
  • Maintain broad equipment, process, and manufacturing knowledge critical to supporting equipment.
  • Work independently with minimal technical supervision.
  • Troubleshoot various models of SP Scientific Equipment autonomously.

Requirements

  • Experience in refrigeration, compressors, and systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic schematics.
  • Experience with troubleshooting and repair of freeze-dryers is a plus.
  • Able to independently coordinate and perform the installation of complex, structural capital equipment.
  • Able to assemble complex, often large, mechanical assemblies.
  • Independent troubleshooting of complex mechanical and refrigeration systems.
  • Able to perform manufacturing processes such as brazing and welding.
  • Understanding of technical instructions, schematics, blueprints, and specifications.

Nice-to-haves

  • Basic understanding of PLC Controls including ladder logic.
  • Familiarity and use of test equipment.
  • Familiarity and use of hand tools.
  • Plumbing skills, including piping and brazing.
  • Electrical/Electronic knowledge.
