About the position

The Field Service Engineer Level 1 position at Mevion Medical Systems is a critical role responsible for maintaining technical oversight of the Proton Therapy System (PTS). This position requires the engineer to become proficient in operating the PTS to meet various customer needs and to perform related work functions. The engineer will regularly interact with customers' professional and technical staff to resolve operational issues with Mevion products at customer sites. This role is essential in ensuring that the PTS operates effectively and meets the high standards expected by both the company and its clients. In this position, the engineer will be tasked with operating the Proton Therapy System, which includes troubleshooting and conducting post-service testing. The role involves providing visible customer support through on-site operations, corrective and preventive maintenance of proton therapy equipment, and ancillary devices. Clear communication with customers and Mevion employees regarding the status of the system is crucial. The engineer will also work on complex clinical systems related to the PTS, including motion control systems, CT scanners, X-ray and radiological technology devices, and robotic manipulators. The engineer will monitor daily treatments and system performance, ensuring that the PTS devices perform according to specifications. This includes reporting and documenting all complaints and key performance indicators of the PT device. The role requires maintaining equipment according to a maintenance schedule, troubleshooting equipment issues, and repairing systems as necessary. The engineer must adhere to facility, regulatory, and FDA regulations while documenting interventions and actions taken. A high degree of professional knowledge and safety consciousness is required to perform activities under the safest working conditions, and maintaining a clean working environment is essential. Additionally, the engineer will be responsible for maintaining calibrated equipment and tooling, managing on-site inventory, and performing other duties as assigned by service management. This position demands a commitment to continuous learning and adaptation to new technologies and systems, ensuring that the engineer remains proficient in all aspects of the PTS and related equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Operate Proton Therapy System, including troubleshooting and post-service testing.
  • Provide customer support through on-site operation and maintenance of proton therapy equipment.
  • Communicate system status to customers and Mevion employees.
  • Work on complex clinical systems related to the Proton Therapy System.
  • Ensure PT devices perform according to specifications and monitor daily treatments.
  • Report and document complaints and key performance indicators of the PT device.
  • Maintain equipment according to the maintenance schedule.
  • Troubleshoot PTS equipment including electrical, mechanical, and software problems.
  • Repair equipment/systems and document interventions accurately.
  • Meet key performance indicators such as throughput and customer satisfaction.
  • Maintain professional knowledge and safety consciousness according to Mevion guidelines.
  • Maintain a clean working environment and adhere to safety rules.
  • Maintain calibrated equipment and tooling according to specifications.
  • Manage on-site inventory and perform part management duties.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Service Management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science or equivalent in Engineering, Physics, or related field preferred, or 4-6+ years of technical experience in the Military or equivalent.
  • Experience with radiation therapy equipment is a plus.
  • Electronic/Electrical and Mechanical ability.
  • Experience working with computer interfaces, instrumentation, and control systems.
  • Preferred experience with proton systems.
  • Strong interest in new technology and continuous learning.
  • Sound computer usage and debugging skills.
  • Knowledge of networks and networking techniques.
  • Solid understanding of imaging systems.
  • Experience with SalesForce or equivalent CRM product and productivity software desired.
  • Experience with troubleshooting and data analysis techniques is required.
  • Medical Physics experience is a plus.

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiarity with cooling systems, cryogenics, vacuum systems, PLC's, regulation loops, drivers, sensors, electric motors, high voltage equipment, low voltage equipment.
  • Mechanical system repair, maintenance, and operations of large systems.
