About the position

H.F. Lenz Company, a nationally recognized consulting engineering firm, is seeking an experienced Field Service Representative to support the construction administration of mechanical/HVAC, electrical, fire protection, and plumbing (MEP/FP) systems at our headquarters in Johnstown, PA. This role is a service-oriented position that will provide construction administration requiring advanced knowledge of HVAC and mechanical systems, building automation systems, and electrical systems with the goal of ensuring that building systems perform as designed. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in facilitating construction meetings, overseeing compliance with design specifications, and ensuring optimal performance of building systems throughout the construction process. The Field Service Representative will be integral to maintaining this reputation by ensuring that all mechanical systems are installed and functioning according to the highest standards. The position requires a proactive approach to identifying energy conservation and system optimization measures, consulting with project teams, and verifying that design standards and equipment specifications align with client expectations. The representative will also oversee system testing procedures, conduct site visits, and document construction observations to ensure compliance with design documents and building codes. This role demands effective communication skills, both verbal and written, to convey technical deficiencies and collaborate with diverse project teams.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate construction meetings with multi-disciplinary teams of contractors, subcontractors, architects, engineers, and building owners throughout the design and construction and post-occupancy of facilities.
  • Oversee HVAC, plumbing/FP, and control systems to verify compliance with plans, specifications, and equipment operating requirements, providing recommendations for corrective adjustments or troubleshooting.
  • Identify energy conservation and system optimization measures.
  • Consult with project teams regarding HVAC/mechanical systems and plumbing for optimal building systems performance.
  • Verify that design standards, equipment specifications, and measured performance are consistent with the Client/Owner's expectations.
  • Oversee system testing procedures and verify that system operations meet complete design intent and owner requirements.
  • Review design and construction documents for compliance with applicable building codes.
  • Perform site visits of projects under various stages of construction and document items that do not meet the requirements of the design documents.
  • Proactively identify project design, quality, or operational limitations and discrepancies that conflict with design intent or owner requirements.
  • Monitor construction progress and advise on project completion.
  • Document construction observations and produce construction schedules and reports.

Requirements

  • Associates' Degree in Mechanical, Civil, Electrical Engineering or Construction Management; or a combination of an Associates' Degree and applicable work experience.
  • 5+ years' experience in construction, installation, and maintenance of building systems, including Mechanical/HVAC, Controls, Fire Protection, and Plumbing.
  • Effective verbal and written technical communication skills with the ability to use independent discretion and judgment.
  • Ability to ensure that projects are brought to their successful conclusion.
  • Ability to provide clear, concise communication of technical deficiencies in a collaborative manner, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work overtime hours as necessary.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize multiple projects.
  • Physical ability to climb ladders for roof access and collect data in active construction sites and occupied spaces without disruption is required for this role.
  • Driver's license is required.
  • Must be authorized to work in the US without sponsorship.
