About the position

The Field Service Specialist/Engineer at Valmet is responsible for supporting the installation and maintenance of large-scale manufacturing equipment in the Pulp & Paper industry. This role involves extensive travel, hands-on supervision, and collaboration with engineering and sales teams to provide technical solutions and ensure customer satisfaction.

Responsibilities

  • Perform process and field services for Pulp & Energy Solutions equipment in Pulp & Paper mills.
  • Conduct start-ups and commissioning services.
  • Carry out inspections and condition assessments.
  • Manage maintenance and service agreements.
  • Perform tune-ups for process and emissions.
  • Troubleshoot equipment issues and plan outages.
  • Advise on construction for rebuilds, upgrades, and capital projects.
  • Provide emergency assistance and root cause analysis.
  • Develop O&M procedures, data monitoring, and reporting as needed.
  • Prepare and submit detailed service reports in a timely manner.
  • Work collaboratively with Field Service Engineers, Product Engineers, and Sales personnel.
  • Develop relationships with key customers and conduct service sales visits.
  • Supervise maintenance, repair, rebuild, troubleshooting, and installation of equipment at customer sites.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Engineering Technology, or Mechanical Engineering Technology.
  • Minimum of five years of related hands-on mechanical experience in roles such as maintenance mechanic, mechanical construction foreman, or technician.
  • Working knowledge of electronics, hydraulics, pneumatics, welding, rigging, pipefitting, millwrighting, and machining preferred.
  • Ability to read blueprints and diagrams.
  • Experience overseeing projects and managing subcontractor crews.
  • Ability to travel by air or automobile up to 200 days a year, mostly domestically.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in the Pulp & Paper industry.
  • Familiarity with service sales and customer relationship management.
