About the position

The Field Service Technician / Engineer - Analytical role at ABB involves planning and executing complex technical analytical startups, commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting of ABB's and third-party analytical products. This position is crucial for ensuring the quality of refined products through effective maintenance and operation of analytical equipment, contributing to the Process Automation Measurement & Analytics division in Houston, TX.

Responsibilities

  • Perform complex field service operations that typically present unusual problems requiring strong technical skills.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of ABB supplied analytical equipment.
  • Install and commission new and existing analytical field service equipment, conducting tests or experiments as needed.
  • Upgrade complex applications based on new measurement and application requirements, leveraging extensive process experience.
  • Apply application knowledge of refining processes to ensure the quality of the customer's refined products.
  • Troubleshoot and repair equipment, recommending changes to improve performance and customer satisfaction.
  • Conduct detailed inventories and inspections to determine necessary maintenance and repairs.
  • Follow ABB's and customer's safety policies and procedures during work assignments.
  • Complete all required paperwork including service tickets, travel and living expenses, and time entry.
  • Collaborate with the Service and Sales team to identify business opportunities and develop customer relationships.

Requirements

  • Associates' degree in engineering preferably in Analytical, Instrumentation or Electrical; OR a high school diploma with a minimum of 4 years of related engineering/field experience; Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Technical skills in startup, commissioning, troubleshooting, preventive, and unplanned maintenance of products.
  • Experience with gas chromatography and understanding of FTIR.
  • Ability to travel up to 75% domestically.
