About the position

The Field Service Technician III at Rivian is responsible for delivering exceptional customer service and technical support at service locations. This role requires a blend of technical expertise and strong customer service skills, with a focus on assisting with vehicle repairs and ensuring a high-quality experience for customers. The technician will work closely with various internal teams and may need to travel to support service operations until local service centers are established.

Responsibilities

  • Support pre-production vehicle builds and assist cross-functional teams.
  • Travel to locations to provide support until the local Service Center opens.
  • Operate remotely until the local service center opens, if applicable.
  • Follow Rivian repair procedures efficiently while maintaining quality and safety.
  • Perform or assist with diagnosis, repairs, installations, and inspections on vehicles.
  • Conduct road tests on vehicles to ensure repair quality.
  • Manage parts operations including ordering, receiving, shipping, and inventory.
  • Stay updated with technical skills and required training.
  • Support campaigns and containment initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate expense reporting as needed.
  • Work collaboratively in a dynamic environment and provide service support to the field.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  • Graduated from an accredited automotive repair school preferred.
  • 5 or more years of experience in a traditional automotive repair shop preferred.
  • Proficient in using hand tools and power tools.
  • Proficient in navigating a laptop or computer in a Windows or Mac environment.
  • Basic knowledge of diagnosis and workflows.
  • Ability to read electrical schematics and understand basic electricity theory.
  • Ability to perform tire repair and vehicle alignment.
  • Some hybrid repair background is a plus.
  • Ability to diagnose and explain basic vehicle electronic communications like the CAN Bus system.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in automotive process standardization and continuous improvement.
  • Experience using a work order management system including repair documentation.
  • Experience working in start-up environments.
