About the position

Tesla is seeking a Utility Field Service Technician to join our team in Fort Worth, Texas. This full-time position is critical to the success of our large-scale utility energy assets, requiring a diversely skilled technician who can problem-solve effectively and ensure that our systems remain fully operational. The technician will be responsible for servicing, troubleshooting, and upgrading stationary battery equipment as well as medium to high voltage equipment as necessary. This role demands a self-motivated individual who is a team player and possesses a positive attitude, ready to adapt quickly to the dynamic environment of Tesla Energy. In this position, the technician will troubleshoot and repair equipment as directed by the service engineering team, performing tasks that require a high level of skill and patience. Preventative maintenance activities on stationary battery systems will be a key responsibility to maintain warranty coverage. The technician must be comfortable working on utility sites while maintaining a strong focus on safety. Proficiency in operating a variety of hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic and measuring equipment is essential. The technician will also be expected to develop and adhere to best practices and procedures for various maintenance activities related to Tesla Energy equipment. Effective communication is vital in this role, as the technician will maintain high levels of communication and feedback within the Tesla Energy service organization. Daily updates on work completed, problems identified, and future timelines will be required. Flexibility is crucial, as the technician may need to provide support outside their region and potentially outside the country, with travel for extended periods covering multiple locations being a possibility.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and repair equipment as defined by the service engineering team.
  • Perform tasks requiring a high level of skill and patience.
  • Conduct required preventative maintenance activities on stationary battery systems to maintain warranty coverage.
  • Operate a variety of hand tools, power tools, diagnostic and measuring equipment.
  • Develop and follow best practices and procedures for various maintenance activities related to Tesla Energy equipment.
  • Maintain high levels of communication and feedback within the Tesla Energy service organization; prepare daily updates of work completed, problems identified, and future timelines.
  • Provide support outside your region and possibly outside the country as required, with availability for travel for extended periods covering multiple locations.

Requirements

  • Ability to navigate NEC guidelines and knowledge of NFPA 70E practices and CPR & Low Voltage Rescue.
  • Previous electrical trades experience working with power/hand tools, electrical equipment, isolation meters, and multimeters (Oscilloscopes is a plus).
  • Strong computer skills, including comfort with Microsoft Office and cloud-based computing programs.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Ability to communicate and function well in a mobile office setting.

Nice-to-haves

  • SCADA experience is a plus.
  • Comfort working at great heights and in extreme environments.
  • Ability to perform prolonged periods of repetitious duties and lift at least 50 pounds frequently.
