About the position

The Field Service Technician Co-Op at Motorola Solutions offers a unique opportunity for students to gain hands-on experience in the field of telecommunications and public safety. This role is designed for individuals who are eager to apply their academic knowledge in a practical setting while working closely with skilled technical leaders. The position is based at the Mid-Atlantic Motorola Solutions Center in Winchester, VA, and involves supporting various public safety customers across the Mid-Atlantic region. The Co-Op will engage in mission-critical field activities, ensuring the smooth execution of operations and optimizing efficiency through the application of academic principles learned in their educational courses. As a Field Service Technician Co-Op, you will be responsible for providing technical support on specialized telecommunications systems and public safety product applications. This includes maintaining and documenting complex communications systems, developing solutions to technical problems, and providing weekly reports of activities and accomplishments. Continuous training in the latest technologies and troubleshooting techniques will be a key aspect of this role, allowing you to stay updated with industry advancements. The position requires a strong self-starter who can solve customer problems quickly, especially in stressful situations. You will work closely with various teams, including Sales, Engineering, Project Management, and Customer Service, to deliver exceptional service to Motorola Solutions' public safety customers. This Co-Op program is an excellent opportunity to gain system experience with Motorola's equipment, including base stations, consoles, and various communications test equipment, while also developing valuable skills in networking and cybersecurity.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Mid-Atlantic Motorola Solutions Center located in Winchester, VA.
  • Provide technical support on specialized telecommunications systems and public safety product applications.
  • Maintain and document complex communications systems.
  • Provide weekly reports of activities and accomplishments.
  • Develop solutions to difficult technical problems encountered during system maintenance, upgrades, or support issues.
  • Engage in continuous training in the latest technologies and troubleshooting techniques.

Requirements

  • Must be a current student attending a 2-year program or a 4-year program at a college, university, or technical school.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen with the ability to obtain necessary security clearance as required by government contract.
  • Must possess a current and valid driver's license and have a clean driving record.

Nice-to-haves

  • Desire to pursue a certification in Security+, Network+, CCNA, or NRS1.
  • Knowledge of wired communications systems, such as local area networks (LAN) and wide-area networks (WAN).
  • Desire to perform computer network installation, configuration, and maintenance systems to include cabling, routers, switches, firewalls, and bridges.
  • Willingness to learn R.F. interfaces and systems such as transmitters, receivers, and antenna networks.
  • Willingness to learn standard telephony, dedicated data circuits, and packet switching techniques.
