About the position
The Field Service Technician at Bermex plays a crucial role in ensuring efficient utility services by performing meter reading and maintenance tasks. This position requires a high degree of driving, excellent time management, and the ability to adapt to varying daily routines. The technician will work independently outdoors, engaging with customers and completing service orders to support the utility billing department.
Responsibilities
- Remove inactive meters and locate curb valves.
- Discontinue services and conduct safety inspections, including gas leak detection.
- Complete assigned duties within the required time frame for cycle readings.
- Assign sequence numbers to new services and rearrange meter reading routes as necessary.
- Read meters daily and/or on a special basis, typically on customer premises for service bills.
- Evaluate unsafe conditions and clean out meter boxes as needed.
- Use electric, gas, and water meter reading devices.
- Read meters in various environmental conditions and walk long distances, occasionally up to 20 miles per day.
- Exert physical force moving objects, routinely 10lbs and occasionally up to 50lbs of force.
- Refer consumer complaints to appropriate authorities and provide general information about meter services to customers.
Requirements
- Must possess a valid driver's license.
- No prior experience necessary; training will be provided.
- Ability to multi-task and work independently as well as in a team setting.
- Exceptional flexibility in daily routines and route scheduling.
- Adequate time management skills to complete daily meter maintenance.
- Excellent communication skills for interacting with management and customers.
- Attention to detail for problem-solving and finding solutions.
Nice-to-haves
- High School Diploma or GED preferred.
- Experience in meter reading or working in outdoor conditions.
