About the position

The Field Specialist - Uptower Repair is responsible for performing maintenance and large component replacements on wind turbine generators across the United States. This role involves troubleshooting mechanical and electrical issues, overseeing contractors, and ensuring safety and quality in all operations. The position requires significant travel and the ability to work in various environments, including extreme weather conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Support team objectives and maintain focus on safety, quality, and execution.
  • Assist Field Engineers and Lead Field Specialists.
  • Complete required training to advance in Up Tower Qualifications standards.
  • Participate in pre-job meetings to discuss lift plans, LOTO, schedule, weather, hazards, and job site requirements.
  • Troubleshoot complicated mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical problems on variable pitch/variable speed turbines.
  • Assist in site preparation, coordinating labor and materials with minimal supervision.
  • Document all work performed using computer-based service reporting procedures.
  • Communicate site status to engineering, customers, and management.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma / GED.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience as a Wind Turbine Technician or completion of a relevant degree (Certificate/Associates/Bachelors) in electrical, mechanical, or Renewable Energy.
  • Minimum of 4 years of related experience in electrical, mechanical, hydraulics, or similar fields.
  • Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally 90% of the time.
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
  • Ability to handle repetitive weight of 50 lbs.
  • Ability to climb towers up to 300 feet.
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to meet specific OSHA weight limits of 250 to 300 lbs max.
  • Ability to read and understand electrical schematic drawings.
  • Ability to interpret technical manuals, procedures, and regulations.
  • Ability to write reports and perform basic arithmetic.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's Degree in a Technical, Electrical, or Electronics field from an accredited college or university.
  • Technical Certification in Wind Energy or Electrical/Electronic field.
  • Wind turbine experience.
  • Ability to work with a wide variety of personnel at all levels.
  • Experience using hydraulic power tools.
  • Experience with heavy equipment and knowledge of crane and rigging requirements.
