About The Position

This vacancy is for a Field Supervisor (FS) position supporting Special Census (SC) operations for Volo, IL. This position reports to the U.S. Census Bureau's Chicago Regional Office. Applicants selected will have their home as their Duty Station and will be required to travel throughout their local area.

Requirements

  • You must maintain a residence within the area of consideration that will serve as your duty station.
  • You must be 18 years old.
  • You must be a US Citizen.
  • You must have good hearing and the ability to read small print.
  • You must be in good physical condition to drive, walk, stand, and climb stairs for extended periods.
  • You will occasionally be required to lift materials weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • You must be willing to travel throughout all parts of the SC area, sometimes on short notice and sometimes overnight.
  • You must have access to a vehicle (or public transportation) so that you can travel throughout the assigned geographic area.
  • You must establish and maintain a safe work environment in your residence.
  • You must have access to a landline or mobile phone.
  • You must be willing to use all methods of communication (face to face, phone call, emails, letter, etc.).
  • You must be willing to accept all assignments.
  • You must be suitable for Federal employment.
  • You must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable, at time of hire.
  • You must meet all qualification requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
  • A one or two-year trial period is required (dependent upon veteran's status).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in interviewing clients, respondents, and/or customers to gather and obtain data in person and/or by telephone.
  • Experience completing work assignments in accordance with production or progress standards.
  • Experience applying procedural guidance and/or training to address complex or unusual problems.

Responsibilities

  • Leads a team of Field Representatives responsible for conducting interviews primarily in person (door to door) and when requested may conduct phone interviews to collect SC data as required within an assigned geographic area.
  • Understands the SC being conducted including response patterns, their effect on interviewing experience, and is able to leverage general guidance, previous training, experience, and resource material in directing Field Representatives to resolve issues.
  • Assists with the training of Field Representatives.
  • When needed, conducts in person interviews throughout the assigned geographic area.
  • Evaluates, monitors, and mentors Field Representative performance through performance metrics on the job observations, and conducts supervisory and administrative duties.
