About the position

The Field Technical Engineer position is a critical role within the Semiconductor business (Nano Technologies) located in Hillsboro, OR. This position is primarily focused on providing customer support for onsite installations, repairs, and maintenance of semiconductor process equipment. The successful candidate will undergo training for a period of 1-3 months, which will take place in either Austin, Texas, or Hillsboro, Oregon. This role requires the candidate to report directly to an assigned worksite five days a week, and it is essential that candidates reside close to Hillsboro, OR. In this role, the Field Technical Engineer will be responsible for monitoring, inspecting, setting up, calibrating, and maintaining semiconductor process equipment in the field. The primary goal is to prevent equipment downtime and ensure optimal performance. The engineer will instruct customers on the operation and maintenance of the system equipment, serving as a liaison between the company and the customer for assigned projects, including installations and major component replacements. The position also involves performing complex repair maintenance or unit replacements according to factory procedures, both independently and collaboratively with other technicians. Providing technical support to customers is a key aspect of the role, as the engineer will respond to inquiries regarding operational procedures, equipment malfunctions, and other technical issues to minimize downtime and maintain positive customer relations. Additionally, the engineer will be responsible for identifying and reporting equipment errors and status updates related to performance issues, maintaining accurate documentation of activities, and conducting training for customer personnel to ensure proficiency in service and operations.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor, inspect, setup, calibrate, and maintain semiconductor process equipment in the field to prevent equipment down time.
  • Instruct customers in the operation and maintenance of the system equipment.
  • Serve as company liaison with customer on matters for assigned projects (i.e. installations and major component replacements).
  • Perform complex repair maintenance or unit replacement according to factory procedures independently and with others.
  • Provide technical support to customers and respond to questions regarding operation procedures, equipment malfunctions, and other technical issues to minimize equipment down time and ensure positive customer relations.
  • Identify and report equipment error and status updates related to equipment performance issues to aid in troubleshooting or maintenance.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of activity and provide periodic reports.
  • Conduct training for customer personnel ensuring proficiency of service and operations.
  • Work with other technicians in the field to troubleshoot and service equipment.

Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree in electrical or mechanical engineering or equivalent experience (i.e. technical training, military training or technical school).
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a related field (i.e. semiconductor manufacturing equipment).
  • Knowledge of Linux operating system is required.
  • Hands on mechanical skills as well as experience with electronic testing tools required.
  • Ability to work independently, as well as with other engineers under challenging situations.
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Customer support experience is a plus.
  • Ability to travel and work flexible schedules.
  • Ability to lift at least 25lbs and sustain substantial amounts of standing, walking, typing, grasping, talking and hearing, as well as occasional kneeling, crouching, stooping, reaching, pushing, pulling and climbing stairs or ladder.
  • Ability to work in a time-sensitive situation with quick resolution.
