About the position

The Field Technician - Access Control and CCTV at Star Technology Group is responsible for the installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of low-voltage systems, including gate entry systems, cameras, and access control systems. This role requires significant outdoor work and manual labor, with a focus on quality control and effective communication with team members and clients. The technician will work independently or lead a small team, ensuring projects are completed according to specifications and industry standards.

Responsibilities

  • Installation of gate entry systems, cameras, access control, audio, video systems, and components.
  • Troubleshooting systems.
  • Basic programming and configuration of systems.
  • Working solo and/or leading a team of up to four helpers.
  • Following drawings, system diagrams, and project scopes to lead and complete projects.
  • Installing and terminating cabling systems in accordance with codes and industry standards.
  • Coordinating and communicating with other trades on projects.
  • Traveling to various sites throughout the service area daily and being available for out-of-town work weekly.
  • Completing detailed daily project reports.
  • Performing quality control and quality assurance.
  • Providing end-user training.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent education.
  • 10 years of experience in a relevant industry.
  • 5 years of experience leading a team on a project.
  • Valid State of Florida Driver's License with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to pass a DOC Level 2 background check and drug test.
  • Must provide own industry-standard hand tools.

Nice-to-haves

  • Strong mechanical and electrical skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Understanding of voltage, amperage, resistance, ohms, AC/DC voltage, wiring, power flow, and relays.
  • Proficiency in using specialty test equipment to certify and troubleshoot systems.
  • Ability to terminate low-voltage cabling, including category cabling, optical fiber, coax, and control cabling.
  • Working knowledge of the National Electrical Code.
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting cabling and electronic systems, including remote manufacturer support.
  • Ability to complete work with minimal supervision.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Quick learning and adaptability to new technologies.
  • PC proficiency.
