About the position

The Field Test Engineer at Hitachi Rail is responsible for performing integration and test activities, providing field support for ongoing project activities, and troubleshooting maintenance in Communication-Based Train Control (CBTC) equipment. This role involves on-site installation and maintenance of both Non-CBTC and CBTC equipment, ensuring compliance with corporate and customer procedures, and promoting customer relations. The engineer will work closely with various departments throughout all phases of integration, commissioning, and support, while documenting test activities and providing technical support.

Responsibilities

  • Perform on-site installation and maintenance of Non-CBTC and CBTC equipment for wayside systems.
  • Initiate work process procedures as per customer process.
  • Identify problems detected during tests and correct them as required.
  • Support troubleshooting and repair of CBTC equipment as required.
  • Provide support for test Carborne and Wayside activities and the planning of field activities.
  • Provide technical support in all operational matters in the functionality of wayside subsystems.
  • Work with diverse departments and become involved in all phases of integration, commissioning, and support.
  • Promote customer relations and company credibility.
  • Investigate and troubleshoot system anomalies through analysis of data files, design documentation, and interaction with development departments.
  • Provide summaries and detailing of test activities in the form of both informal and formal test reports.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in related field with a minimum of 5-8+ years of relevant experience, or Master's degree in related field with 4+ years of relevant experience.
  • Field experience in a rail transit installation, test or support environment or similar technology application.
  • Demonstrates and applies a broad knowledge of field of specialization through successful completion of moderately complex assignments.
  • Effective organizational and communication skills to interact professionally with all levels inside and outside the organization.
  • Strong process orientation and discipline to ensure compliance with both Corporate and Customer procedures.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in installation and testing of automatic train control systems concepts and principles as well as current existing signaling standards.
  • Working knowledge of safety standards and practices required at project site.
  • Flexibility to take on additional projects and adapt to changes in priorities.
  • Critical thinking, able to identify and implement better efficiencies and process improvements.
  • Knowledge of train control systems, preferably of Communication Based Train Control (CBTC) products with respect to installation support and testing.
  • Experience in deploying fixed block signaling systems.
