We offer career opportunities where you can contribute and grow. The Sales and Marketing department is looking for a property and casualty field territory underwriter for our Chicago, IL territory. This role is critical in evaluating, assessing, and pricing risks while leading profitable growth for our agency partners. As a field-based underwriter, you will be responsible for underwriting, analyzing risks, pricing, negotiating, and making informed decisions on commercial business. You will also be involved in selling and soliciting business across all available business units within the territory to build strong, diverse agency relationships. In this position, you will lead the territory in strategic plan development, ownership, and execution of enterprise-wide growth and profit, including new agency appointments. You will achieve deep relationships with assigned agencies to build a diverse and profitable portfolio, delivering on our vision to be the best company serving independent agents. Additionally, you will provide leadership by partnering with and leading other field disciplines within designated agency relationships to ensure their success through communication, support, and collaboration with team members. Staying updated on industry trends, market conditions, and emerging risks is essential for making informed decisions based on this information.

Responsibilities

  • Underwrite by analyzing risks, pricing, negotiating, and making informed decisions on commercial business.
  • Sell and solicit business across all available business units within the territory to build strong, diverse agency relationships.
  • Lead the territory in strategic plan development, ownership, and execution of enterprise-wide growth and profit, including new agency appointments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • Proven experience in underwriting, with a minimum of 2 years of commercial underwriting experience (more than 3 years preferred).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and make sound decisions.
  • Willingness to travel and visit agencies within the territory regularly.
  • Strategic business plan development skills.
  • Valid driver's license.

Nice-to-haves

  • Relevant insurance industry certifications (e.g., Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) or Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU)).
  • Professional selling experience.
