About the position

The Finance Accountant, Level 4 (Provisional) at LaGuardia Community College is responsible for overseeing and coordinating accounting activities within the institution. This role involves managing financial transactions, ensuring compliance with CUNY guidelines and governmental accounting standards, and supervising accounting staff. The position requires a strong understanding of accounting principles and practices, as well as the ability to conduct audits and prepare financial statements.

Responsibilities

  • Manage monthly financial statements, ad-hoc analyses, and reconciliations.
  • Oversee audits to comply with University standards.
  • Implement accounting controls to satisfy CUNY, City, State, and Federal regulations.
  • Develop and conduct college-wide training sessions related to Non-Tax Levy budget planning, procurement, and payment policies.
  • Liaise with departments to review budgets and monitor spending trends quarterly.
  • Coordinate with CUNY's Central Office and independent auditors to provide necessary mid-year and year-end schedules.
  • Prepare variance analyses to assist with management's discussion and analysis.

Requirements

  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution with at least eighteen (18) college credits in accounting.
  • At least six (6) credits in data processing, computer science, banking, economics, statistics, or similar courses.
  • Three years of full-time related experience in an appropriate field.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with accounting system's general ledger and submodules.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
