About the position

The Finance Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing the accounting and financial analysis functions within the organization. This role involves ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, preparing financial reports, and managing the finance division's operations. The manager will also supervise staff, maintain financial records, and collaborate with various departments to ensure accurate financial reporting and budgeting.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises the accounting, financial analysis, general ledger, annual year-end audit and other functions of CMLP.
  • Develops and implements periodic financial reporting for the Director, Board, and Finance Department.
  • Ensures compliance with Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities and Federal Energy Regulatory Commission requirements, as well as GAAP standards.
  • Prepares and reconciles financial records and reports, including monthly cash and receivables reconciliation with the Town Accountant.
  • Responsible for the preparation and production of the Annual CMLP Forecast and collaborates on billing rates.
  • Maintains knowledge of developments in the utility industry through study and seminars.
  • Maintains cost accounting and plant assets for accuracy according to DPU and FERC regulations.
  • Designs and maintains security settings in Accounting ERP software and manages user permissions.
  • Verifies accuracy of monthly electric billing activity and controls adjustments.
  • Directs activities for proper control of electric rates used in the utility billing system.
  • Coordinates and reconciles departmental financial records with the Town Accountant's records.
  • Interacts with Finance Department personnel, external auditors, regulators, vendors, and CMLP Board members.
  • Performs special projects and related responsibilities as requested.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field.
  • Seven or more years of progressively responsible experience in accounting, business administration, or management in the public utility sector.
  • Supervisory experience in accounting or financial management.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of utility billing and general ledger software.
  • Experience with GAAP, FERC accounting requirements, and DPU regulations.
