About the position

The Finance & Accounting Manager for the City of Red Wing, MN, is responsible for overseeing the operations of finance and accounting services. This role encompasses a wide range of functions including general accounting, payroll, utility billing, accounts payable, accounts receivable, assessments, auditing, bond administration, treasury management, and financial reporting. The manager will ensure that all financial operations are conducted in compliance with applicable laws and regulations, while also maintaining the integrity of financial data and reporting processes. In this position, the Finance & Accounting Manager will lead a team of finance professionals, providing guidance and support to ensure efficient and effective service delivery. The manager will be expected to develop and implement financial policies and procedures, monitor financial performance, and prepare comprehensive financial reports for city management and stakeholders. Additionally, the role requires collaboration with other departments to facilitate budget preparation and financial planning, as well as to address any financial issues that may arise. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate complex financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders. This position plays a critical role in the financial health of the City of Red Wing, ensuring that resources are managed effectively and that the city remains accountable to its residents.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the operations of finance and accounting services including general accounting, payroll, utility billing, accounts payable, and accounts receivable.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Five (5) to seven (7) years of progressively responsible accounting and finance experience.
  • Three (3) years of supervisory experience in a finance or accounting role.
  • Municipal experience is preferred.
