About the position

The Finance Analyst position at State Farm involves providing critical financial analysis and reporting to support executive decision-making and inform leadership on financial performance. The role is integral to the Strategic Reporting and Financial Statements teams, focusing on financial forecasts, regulatory compliance, and enterprise stress testing. The Finance Analyst will collaborate with various teams to deliver actionable insights and facilitate strategic initiatives, ultimately contributing to the mission of helping customers in diverse ways.

Responsibilities

  • Preparing monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements and reports for Property & Casualty, Life, Investment Management/Brokerage and other affiliates.
  • Researching accounting guidance and appropriately applying it to financial reporting.
  • Maintaining proper operation of internal controls.
  • Supporting executive decision making through financial forecasting, financial trend analysis, stress testing, board reporting, and communication of monthly and quarterly financial results.
  • Providing knowledge, insight, and enterprise perspective via financial analysis that facilitates operational and strategic decision making.
  • Collaborating across Financial Operations and the Enterprise to develop ad hoc and routine analysis to enable informed decision-making, including analysis of results, proactive identification of trends, and impact analysis on changes affecting trends.
  • Serving as a strategic thought partner for leadership and business areas, offering insights on Enterprise financial and growth results.
  • Preparing accurate financial analysis in a timely manner and communicating complex subject matter in a simplified manner that meaningfully informs decisions.
  • Representing Financial Operations on projects and initiatives across the Enterprise.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Accounting or Finance
  • Understanding of core accounting principles and financial statements
  • Broad business and financial acumen
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with an ability to work with all levels of leadership
  • Learning agility and adaptability to work across multiple teams
  • A high degree of internal motivation and initiative
  • Ability to multi-task and manage competing priorities to meet deadlines
  • Ability to lead and/or represent Financial Operations on projects and initiatives
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including utilization of advanced formulas and report automation technique

Nice-to-haves

  • CPA designation preferred
  • Insurance and/or financial services experience preferred
