About the position

The Finance and Operations Director at Joy's House is responsible for overseeing the financial activities, reporting, and daily operations of the organization. This role is crucial in ensuring the financial health and operational efficiency of the organization, which provides adult day and caregiver services. The director will lead the Finance and Operations Department, manage human resources functions, and serve as a liaison to the Finance Committee, all while championing the organization's values of self-worth, safety, and inclusion.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the organization's financial activities, human resources, and facility operations.
  • Lead the Finance and Operations Department in maintaining and implementing policies, processes, and procedures.
  • Serve as the primary internal contact for human resources functions.
  • Provide strategic and operational oversight of accounting, compliance, financial planning, and budgeting functions.
  • Plan, develop, implement, and oversee the organization's annual and long-term financial performance.
  • Manage cash flow and forecasting, developing a reliable cash flow projection process.
  • Optimize banking relationships and enhance cash positions.
  • Finalize the annual budget and maintain internal control safeguards.
  • Coordinate all audit activities and ensure compliance with relevant laws and tax obligations.
  • Evaluate the finance team's performance with an emphasis on continual improvement.
  • Plan and supervise the preparation of the organization's annual audited financial statements.
  • Support Managed Care Entities (MCEs) from a finance perspective.
  • Oversee all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems for compliance with accounting principles and regulatory requirements.
  • Partner with the President in budgeting and reporting the financial status of grants and contracts.
  • Oversee the month-end closing process and present End-of-Month reports.
  • Review bi-weekly payroll and finalize year-end reports.
  • Establish new online accounting software to coordinate with existing systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business, management, accounting, or finance required.
  • At least 4 years of progressively responsible experience in a nonprofit environment required.
  • Experience in a financial-management role, partnering with executive staff and external auditors preferred.
  • Significant experience in nonprofit accounting, including fund and grant accounting, compliance, and reporting.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Expert Excel skills required, along with high proficiency in Teams, QuickBooks, and ideally, Bloomerang.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree and/or CPA preferred.
  • Experience in legal, audit, compliance, budget, and resource development preferred.
  • Familiarity with various types of investments and charitable trusts preferred.
