About the position

The Finance Budget Analyst (I or II) position at California State University, Sacramento, is a critical role within the Budget Planning and Administration (BPA) department. Under the direction of the Vice President for Budget Planning and Administration, the Finance Budget Analyst I is responsible for processing routine fiscal transactions, reviewing and analyzing division and program budgets, and generating fiscal reports from campus and CSU systems. This includes tasks such as posting budgets, managing budget transfers, logging position requests, and running reports from the Financial Data Warehouse. The analyst will collaborate with other budget office analysts to prepare the annual budget, review quarterly revenue and expenditure projections, and analyze year-end reports for submission to the Chancellor's Office. For the Finance Budget Analyst II role, the incumbent will work with general guidance from the Associate Vice President of Budget Planning & Administration. This position requires independent tracking and processing of campus-wide budget and position changes, preparing fiscal projections, and training campus partners on budget procedures. As a full journey-level analyst, the Finance Budget Analyst II will support the AVP in planning, coordinating, and implementing the annual campus budget process, monitoring, forecasting, and reporting budgeted revenues and expenses. The role also involves close collaboration with the Chancellor's Office and campus enterprise units to produce financial plans for capital projects and reporting requirements. The analyst will work with internal staff and various campus colleagues to resolve issues, provide training on procedures, and act as backup to other Finance Budget Analysts as needed. This position is exempt from overtime compensation and offers a competitive salary range based on the candidate's education, experience, skills, and training. The BPA department plays a vital role in supporting the campus by estimating and allocating fiscal resources necessary for achieving student success and implementing institutional goals.
