About the position

The Finance/Budget Manager at Washington State University serves as the principal fiscal advisor for the Department of Entomology, providing comprehensive financial and administrative management. The Finance/Budget Manager is responsible for providing analysis and reports that track financial and academic resources and outcomes, as well as establishing rates and determining cost-effective methods for conducting business. In addition to financial oversight, the Finance/Budget Manager provides management and administrative oversight for personnel issues within the department. This includes overall management and leadership of the department's day-to-day operations and financial services. The position entails fiscal and budgetary management, oversight of facilities and resource management, coordination of contracts and grants, service centers, and the implementation of operational policies and procedures. The successful candidate will utilize independent judgment to analyze problems and implement effective solutions. The effectiveness of this position relies heavily on the finance, budget, and management skills of the incumbent, as well as their ability to accomplish work through account analysis, reconciliation, and balance maintenance. Delegating duties, responsibilities, and authority to others is also a key aspect of this role.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the principal fiscal advisor for the Department of Entomology.
  • Manage and administer accounting information systems functions.
  • Ensure compliance with university, state, and federal regulations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • Four (4) years of experience directly related to the duties specified, including at least one (1) year of supervisory experience.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with spreadsheet, database, word processing, e-mail, and calendaring software.
  • Experience with budget, personnel, and management of financial resources.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience with preparing financial reports.

Nice-to-haves

  • More than 2 years of fiscal experience in an academic department in a higher education setting.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience working with WSU systems.
  • Experience with the Workday system.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated experience using computerized accounting information systems and/or applications software.

Benefits

  • Monthly salary range of $4,508.70 - $5,635.87 based on experience and qualifications.
