About the position

The Finance Budget Specialist (HEOa) at The City University of New York (CUNY) is responsible for assisting in the development and management of annual budgets under the direction of the Budget Director. This role involves maintaining budget data, analyzing financial information, processing budget transfers, and providing support to staff regarding budget-related queries. The position plays a crucial role in ensuring accurate financial reporting and compliance with budgetary guidelines.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in developing annual budgets under the direction of the Budget Director.
  • Maintain and update budget data in CUNYFirst and reconcile it with other financial systems.
  • Analyze CUNYFirst budget and expenditure data, identify inconsistencies, and suggest corrective actions.
  • Process budget transfers and adjustments, and assist in preparing quarterly financial reports to management.
  • Record, track, and process journals in CUNYFirst.
  • Provide support to staff related to budgets in CUNYFirst, including Chart-fields input and requisitions in budget error.
  • Coordinate and process expense journals to ensure accurate expense data in the General Ledger.
  • Update Budget Modifications in CF Financial systems and maintain tracking sheets.
  • Track Refund of Appropriation (ROA) Reimbursements.
  • Coordinate with HR in assigning Budget Line #'s to backfills and new positions.
  • Assist the budget team in coordinating personnel actions with Human Resources.
  • Add new positions to the Department Budget Table in CF.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field.
  • Four years of related experience in budgeting or finance.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables, v-lookups, and data analysis.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in creating and editing PowerPoint presentations for upper management.
  • Updating Access databases and handling large data sets.
