About the position

The Director of Finance is responsible for the financial management and strategic financial planning of a local non-profit organization. This role involves overseeing budgeting, accounting, financial reporting, and compliance with applicable laws and regulations, while working closely with the executive team and board of directors to ensure the organization's financial health and sustainability.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and oversee the organization's financial strategy, including budgeting, forecasting, and long-term financial planning.
  • Monitor and analyze financial performance, providing regular reports to the executive team and board.
  • Lead the annual budgeting process, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
  • Prepare and present financial statements and reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ensure accurate and timely accounting practices in accordance with GAAP and non-profit regulations.
  • Oversee audits and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws.
  • Manage financial aspects of grant proposals and reporting, ensuring compliance with grant requirements.
  • Collaborate with program directors to track and report on grant expenditures.
  • Develop and implement robust financial controls and policies to safeguard organizational assets.
  • Oversee financial software systems and ensure accurate data management.
  • Manage and mentor finance department staff, fostering a collaborative and high-performing team environment.
  • Support professional development and training for finance staff.
  • Collaborate with the executive team to support strategic initiatives and organizational growth.
  • Serve as a key advisor on financial implications of strategic decisions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or a related field; Master's degree or CPA preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in finance management, with a non-profit environment.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, budgeting processes, and financial reporting.
  • Experience with grant management is required.
  • Proficient in financial software and Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and stakeholders.
