About the position

The Finance Director at El Pajaro Community Development Corporation (EPCDC) plays a crucial role in overseeing the financial operations of the organization. This position requires a blend of flexibility, initiative, and creativity, as well as the ability to collaborate with individuals from diverse backgrounds and perspectives. A comprehensive understanding of EPCDC's policies, procedures, standards, and guidelines is essential for success in this role. As a hybrid position, the Finance Director must be able to work in the office several times a week while also managing responsibilities remotely. The role involves a comprehensive background check to ensure the integrity and reliability of the candidate. The Finance Director will be tasked with grant tracking and monitoring, processing accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll on a weekly and monthly basis, as well as performing bank account and balance sheet reconciliations. Monthly financial reporting and analysis are critical components of the role, including required reporting to funders and internal stakeholders such as the Executive Director and Board of Directors. Additionally, the Finance Director will be responsible for cash flow projections, preparation for outside audits, and presenting fiscal information to the Executive Director and Board to facilitate informed decision-making. The position also requires providing financial expertise and recommendations regarding the fiscal direction of the agency when appropriate, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, and implementing improvements to accounting operations and internal controls.

Responsibilities

  • Grant tracking and monitoring, including awards from federal agencies
  • Weekly and monthly processing of accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll
  • Bank account and balance sheet reconciliations
  • Monthly financials and related analysis, including required reporting to funders and internal reporting to the Executive Director, Board of Directors, and program staff
  • Cash flow projections and monitoring
  • Preparation for outside audits, including preparation of Schedule of Expenditure of Federal Awards, reconciliations, audit work papers, and accumulation of testing data requested by auditors
  • Preparation of requests from Form 990 preparer
  • Present fiscal information to the Executive Director and Board to provide a full picture of the finances of the organization
  • Provide financial expertise including making recommendations and suggestions regarding the fiscal direction of the agency when appropriate.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required, preferably in Accounting or Finance
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • 4+ years of related experience that can come from public accounting and/or industry
  • Deep experience with grant management, allocations, and funder reporting
  • Management experience
  • Outstanding communication skills, a positive attitude, and an ability to work with a diverse team
  • Monitor and inform Executive Director of financial requirements relative to federal, state, and local regulations, department records, forms, and reports in conjunction with grant awards
  • Ability to recommend and implement improvements to accounting, operations, internal controls, and compliance policies and procedures consistent with fiscal best practices.
