About the position

The Finance Director at the Preeclampsia Foundation is a full-time, salaried position responsible for overseeing all financial activities of the organization. This role ensures the integrity of financial reporting, compliance with regulations, and effective management of resources, playing a crucial part in supporting the Foundation's mission through sound financial practices and strategic financial planning.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise the Accounting Manager to ensure the accuracy of financial entries and advise on non-routine reporting transactions.
  • Manage finance, accounting, and administrative systems while maintaining excellent financial controls, records, policies, and procedures.
  • Respond to inquiries from the CEO, CFO, and Program Directors regarding financial results and special reporting requests.
  • Perform monthly, quarterly, and year-end closings and prepare statement reconciliations comparing actual to budget performance, analyzing and explaining variances.
  • Oversee receipts, deposits, and gifts, and manage the Foundation's credit card program ensuring expenses align with the budget.
  • Ensure accurate processing of invoices and utilize various submission platforms.
  • Serve as both Accounting Manager and CFO in their absences.
  • Oversee payroll processing, employee benefits, and compliance, and review employee time management.
  • Monitor salary allocations and make recommendations for adjustments throughout the year.
  • Reconcile books/records to IRS Form 5500.
  • Oversee posting of banking and investment activity on a monthly basis and initiate bank transfers and ACH/wire payments.
  • Act as liaison with custodial bank, investment advisors, and investment managers, analyzing and reporting on cash flows for CFO/CEO.
  • Coordinate the preparation of audits, tax returns, and all financial filings required by law, and monitor budgets and spending.
  • Work closely with Contracts and Compliance Manager for preparation of financial reports for grant reporting purposes and compliance with financial legal requirements.
  • Lead the annual budgeting process, collaborating with CEO, CFO, and department heads to prepare accurate budgets aligned with strategic goals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
  • 5-7 years of strong accounting experience.
  • Experience in financial auditing, tax accounting, and data analysis.
  • Proficiency in financial software, particularly QuickBooks and Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and budgeting processes.
  • Leadership experience at a senior level.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's Degree or CPA certification.
  • Experience working in the nonprofit or philanthropic sector.
  • Fund accounting experience.
