About the position

The Finance Director at Stride, Inc. is responsible for managing the financial operations of South Carolina Learns and its affiliated organizations, including Heron Virtual Academy and Cyber Academy of South Carolina. This role involves overseeing contracting needs, providing financial recommendations, and collaborating with various internal departments to ensure effective financial management and compliance with regulations. The Finance Director will also supervise a small team and play a key role in budgetary matters and financial audits.

Responsibilities

  • Manage financial operations for SC Learns and its affiliated organizations.
  • Oversee contracting needs for various departments.
  • Serve as the point of contact between the schools, Stride, and the Charter Institute at Erskine.
  • Provide financial recommendations to the executive team on school growth and financial decisions.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders for contract approvals and signatures.
  • Brief management on budgetary matters.
  • Analyze financial data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities.
  • Oversee expenditures for grants awarded to SC Learns or the Heron Foundation.
  • Lead daily and monthly administrative tasks such as Purchase Order and vendor invoice management.
  • Review month-end accruals and prepare GL change requests.
  • Assist in analysis of month-end performance to budget.
  • Provide data management and analytical support.
  • Maintain compliance with financial regulations and ensure timely filings.
  • Serve as the primary contact for financial audits and work with external auditors.
  • Develop and maintain internal controls to safeguard organizational assets.
  • Carry out supervisory responsibilities including hiring, training, and performance appraisal.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in finance or related field.
  • Three years of professional work experience in project/program management, quantitative analysis, accounting, or financial analysis.
  • Ability to manage confidential information with integrity and discretion.
  • Inquisitive, strategic, analytical, and detail-oriented.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Strong knowledge of public finance, budget development, and financial reporting requirements.
  • Proficiency with financial management software, spreadsheets, and data analysis tools.
  • Ability to clear the required background check.

Nice-to-haves

  • Advanced Excel and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system experience.
  • School level business experience.
