About the position

The Finance Director at Children's Center is a part-time role responsible for overseeing the organization's financial and accounting activities. This includes managing financial statements, budgets, forecasts, and key performance measures, as well as ensuring compliance with accounting policies and procedures. The Finance Director plays a crucial role in supporting the Executive Director and management staff in financial planning and reporting, contributing to the mission of ending child abuse and neglect through effective financial management.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Executive Director and Management Staff in the preparation of the annual budget.
  • Compile budget material for all departments with appropriate backup information to support the annual budget.
  • Ensure correct and timely account of all revenues and expenditures for accurate budget variance analysis.
  • Record all accounting transactions.
  • Develop and implement appropriate accounting policies and procedures to ensure proper internal controls, management reporting, and financial accountability.
  • Work with the Executive Director and Office Manager on risk management and ensure adequate liability insurance coverage.
  • Prepare and coordinate with external auditors for the annual year-end audit and required tax filings.
  • Review monthly payroll preparation for accuracy, quarterly payroll tax filings, and prepare monthly payroll journal entries.
  • Work with the Development Department in reconciling donor database reporting to financial reporting on a monthly basis.
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly reimbursement submission requests and required reporting under County funding agreements.
  • Participate on the Leadership Team, Board Sustainability Committee, and Board of Directors meetings as required by the Executive Director.
  • Serve as liaison with contract providers, banking relationships, and general insurance relationships.
  • Ensure financial contractual reporting requirements including public and private grants.
  • Prepare monthly financial statements for presentation to the Board of Directors.
  • Provide monthly budget versus actual reporting to department directors.
  • Prepare all bank reconciliations and compile credit card packet for bookkeeper.
  • Prepare 1099's at the end of the year.
  • Monitor activity with book sales and royalty payments.
  • Reconcile medical payments, billing system to QB before approval of monthly invoice to billing company.
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly invoices for billing, development, and others as requested.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting required.
  • 5-10 years of not-for-profit management and supervision experience or 5-10 years of administration experience.
  • Firm understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Valid Driver's License and Insurance required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite or related programs.
  • Ability to analyze data, information, and situations to draw conclusions and make recommendations.
  • Ability to develop, manage, and monitor budgets, financial resources, and financial performance.
  • Ability to effectively convey information and ideas through written, verbal, and non-verbal means.
