About the position

The position involves overseeing the financial operations of a government entity, focusing on budgeting, financial reporting, compliance, investment management, and risk management. Responsibilities

  • Assist with developing and managing the annual budget, working closely with department heads to allocate resources effectively and efficiently.
  • Prepare and present comprehensive financial reports, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements, to senior leadership, elected officials, and the public.
  • Ensure compliance with all state and federal financial regulations, including GAAP and GASB guidelines.
  • Oversee the investment of public funds to maximize returns while maintaining safety and liquidity.
  • Manage the government's debt portfolio, including the issuance and servicing of bonds, to minimize costs and optimize the debt structure.
  • Identify and mitigate financial risks through sound financial practices and insurance strategies.
  • Lead a team of finance professionals, fostering a culture of collaboration, professionalism, and continuous improvement.
  • Foster transparency by engaging with the community and responding to financial inquiries from citizens, ensuring that financial information is accessible and understandable.
  • Contribute to the development and execution of the government's long-term financial and strategic plans.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, business administration, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
  • CPA (Certified Public Accountant) or CGFM (Certified Government Financial Manager) certification strongly preferred.
  • Extensive experience in governmental finance, including budgeting, financial reporting, and compliance.
  • Strong knowledge of government accounting standards (GAAP and GASB).
  • Proven leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
