About the position

As a Finance Manager within the AWS Supply Chain Finance team, you will be at the forefront of financial management and analysis, playing a pivotal role in shaping the financial strategies that drive the success of Amazon Web Services. This position is designed for individuals who are passionate about financial modeling, data transformation, and influencing business decisions through insightful analysis. You will be responsible for overseeing the Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) and Month End Close (MEC) processes, ensuring that all financial variances are meticulously tracked and communicated to executive leadership. Your ability to dive deep into financial data will be crucial in providing clarity and direction for strategic decision-making within the organization. In this role, you will collaborate closely with various teams, including Procurement, Finance, and Engineering, to enhance financial controllership processes. You will be expected to earn trust across AWS Infrastructure Finance and partner FP&A teams, leveraging your communication skills to foster strong relationships and facilitate a deeper understanding of the business. Your proactive approach will be essential in identifying opportunities for process improvement, challenging existing workflows, and implementing innovative solutions that align with AWS's ambitious growth objectives. Additionally, you will be tasked with developing scalable and automated processes for tracking operational expenditures (Opex), eliminating manual tasks, and ensuring compliance with Amazon's Governance, Risks, and Compliance (GRC) standards. Your analytical skills will be put to the test as you handle ad hoc analysis requests, transforming ambiguous data into actionable insights that drive business performance.

Responsibilities

  • Own FP&A's Month End Close (MEC) process from end to end ensuring variances are tracked down and insightfully explained to executive management (finance and business).
  • Earn Trust across AWS Infrastructure Finance and partner FP&A teams to learn the business.
  • Identify opportunities to resolve defects proactively. Challenge existing processes and Invent and Simplify to enable FP&A to scale with AWS' ambitious global growth.
  • Perform control activities' to support Amazon's Governance, Risks and Compliances (GRCs).
  • Develop ways to scale and automate existing opex tracking processes. Think big on solutions to eliminate manual processes.
  • Conduct ad hoc analysis requests, working with ambiguous data and turning it into insight and information.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of tax, finance or a related analytical field experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, business, economics, or a related analytical field (e.g., engineering, math, computer science), or Bachelor's degree and 5+ years of quantitative role (engineering, process re-engineering, quality assurance) experience.
  • 5+ years of solving complex business challenges by delivering accurate and timely financial models, analysis, and recommendations that have a proven impact on business (e.g., financial savings, operational improvements, or customer benefits) experience.
  • Experience performing ad hoc analysis using advanced Excel.
  • Experience building and managing financial models for business forecasting and problem solving.

Nice-to-haves

  • 6+ years of identifying incomplete or inaccurate data, identifying the root cause and creating/implementing an escalation plan experience.
  • 6+ years of solving complex business challenges by delivering accurate and timely financial models, analysis, and recommendations that have a proven impact on business (e.g., financial savings, operational improvements, or customer benefits) experience.
  • MBA, or CPA.
  • Experience working with large-scale data mining and reporting tools (examples: SQL, MS Access, Essbase, Cognos) and other financial systems (examples: Oracle, SAP, Lawson, JD Edwards).
  • Experience delivering forecasting, budgeting, and variance analysis, and data interpretation of results.
  • Knowledge of SQL/ETL.
