About the position

Samsara is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Finance & Strategy Manager to lead the management of Cloud, Cell, and SaaS Infrastructure costs. This role is critical for driving efficiency and supporting corporate financial goals through quantitative and qualitative analysis, forecasting models, and strategic decision-making. The Finance Manager will partner with leaders across the Engineering organization to set and achieve efficiency goals that impact corporate-level financial performance.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop Samsara's approach to infrastructure cost management including partnering with a vendor to build a cloud FinOps reporting, alerting, and forecasting tool.
  • Partner closely with leaders across our R&D Engineering teams to drive strategic decision-making, investment prioritization, and long-range planning.
  • Develop COGS and operating expense forecast models driven by infrastructure usage.
  • Manage multiple >$1M software vendors including forecasting and contract renewal negotiation support.
  • Build and monitor KPIs to inspect business health and performance.
  • Analyze financial results, prepare monthly and quarterly management reporting, and support operating review meetings with VPs and EVPs of Engineering and Finance.
  • Build scalable processes and mechanisms to enhance financial visibility, control and planning effectiveness that supports the next wave of Samsara's growth.
  • Champion, role model, and embed Samsara's cultural principles as we scale globally and across new offices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Experience partnering with R&D / Software Engineering teams.
  • Minimum of 4-7+ years of experience in Corporate Finance, financial planning and investigation, and strategic finance experience.
  • Familiarity with cloud cost management and knowledge of cloud cost and usage concepts.
  • Proven experience in financial modeling, forecasting, and budgeting.
  • Strong accounting knowledge with experience working closely with accounting teams.
  • Excellent evaluation, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • AWS Cloud Practitioner or FinOps certifications.
  • Willingness and ability to build new financial processes and mechanisms.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-growing environment with high degrees of ambiguity.
  • Familiarity with ERP systems (e.g., Adaptive Planning, NetSuite, Salesforce, Workday, etc.).
  • Experience working with large datasets and technical data management and analysis skills (e.g., SQL, Tableau, Databricks, etc.).
