About the position

The Finance Manager at Magellan Health is responsible for managing and coordinating the company's financial functions, including accounting, budgeting, financial planning, and reporting. This role involves designing and implementing financial strategies to support both short and long-term business needs, while ensuring compliance with corporate policies. The Finance Manager will analyze financial data, provide economic analyses, and support various departments in achieving financial efficiency and effectiveness.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and coordinate the company's financial functions across sub-functions such as accounting, cost management, budgeting, finance, audit, credit, collections, and tax.
  • Design, propose, and implement financial strategies, guidelines, and procedures within the organization's policy framework.
  • Oversee maintenance of the organization's general ledger and related accounting practices.
  • Manage company-wide budgeting, financial planning, control, and reporting policies and practices.
  • Provide economic analyses and counsel on matters of significant financial impact, including trends, pricing, cash flow, and capital additions.
  • Analyze and review monthly results for risk against annual plans and forecasts, providing variance explanations and recommendations.
  • Prepare monthly financial summaries on risk clients, highlighting key financial indicators.
  • Coordinate with Medical Economics, Operations, and Network to analyze utilization and unit cost trends, identifying potential savings.
  • Prepare in-depth performance analysis on risk contracts as assigned.
  • Manage financial terms and coordinate activities related to contracts, including rate openers and settlement of contingencies.
  • Provide weekly status updates on current trends, initiatives, issues, and resolutions.
  • Provide monthly financial analysis on medical cost reduction initiatives, coordinating with Operations on new initiatives or changes.
  • Prepare annual business plans and forecasts on medical costs for risk contracts, summarizing P&L performance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance or related field is required.
  • Master's degree in Finance is preferred.
  • CPA (Certified Public Accountant) certification is preferred.
  • Proficiency in all Microsoft Office products, with advanced knowledge of Excel.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to communicate analytic results effectively.
  • Strong presentation skills and ability to express ideas clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks effectively and work under tight deadlines in a dynamic environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with a broad range of internal customers.
