About the position

The Finance Manager Operations at Sysco Minnesota, Inc. is a pivotal role responsible for overseeing financial forecasting and reporting across multiple sites within the region. This position requires a deep understanding of financial operations, as the manager will provide insights and analyses of financial results, identifying trends and making recommendations to enhance profitability. A significant focus will be placed on managing operational expenses, particularly in relation to inventory shrinkage, which is critical for maintaining the financial health of the organization. In this role, the Finance Manager will determine the key drivers of operational expense variances compared to both the plan and previous year's results. They will identify underperforming customers and propose actionable recommendations to improve profitability. The manager will also be involved in recruiting, training, and managing the Inventory Control Manager, finance associates, and cashiers, ensuring that the team is well-equipped to meet financial goals. Collaboration is key, as the Finance Manager will work closely with the Inventory team to identify opportunities for reducing both operational and non-operational shrink. They will quantify the financial impact of key cost control initiatives and lead the shrink committee in conjunction with the Region Vice President of Finance. Additionally, the manager will assist in preparing the Annual Profit Plan (AOP) and ensure that all trends and impacts of key initiatives are accurately reflected in the financial forecasts. The individual will also champion Sysco's analytical tools, ensuring that the organization leverages data effectively to drive decision-making.

Responsibilities

  • Determine the key drivers of operations expense variances versus plan and last year's results.
  • Identify underperforming customers and make recommendations to drive profitability.
  • Provide specific analysis as to the key drivers of Operational expenses variances to plan and last year.
  • Participate in the recruiting, training and management of the Inventory Control Manager.
  • Participate in the recruiting, training and management of the finance associate and cashier.
  • Work with the Inventory team to identify opportunities to reduce operational and non-operational shrink.
  • Quantify the financial impact of key operational cost control initiatives.
  • Lead the shrink committee by site and for the Region in conjunction with the Region Vice President Finance.
  • Assist Region Vice President Finance and Market Vice President Finance with the monthly forecast performance.
  • Ensure overall trends and the impacts of key initiatives are reflected accurately in the forecast.
  • Work with each department to ensure they understand the overall forecast and how the impact of the key initiatives they are responsible for is reflected in the forecast.
  • Assist the Region Vice President Finance with the preparation of the Annual Profit Plan (AOP) on operational expenses and initiatives.
  • Champion and be the local expert in Sysco's analytical toolbox.
  • Responsible for the preparation of all capital investment proposals for the Region.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business, Accounting, or Economics required.
  • At least 3 years of financial analyst and/or accounting experience required.
  • Prior managerial experience preferred.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to analyze data and draw logical conclusions and recommendations from the data.
  • Ability to lead and direct clerical positions.
  • Proficient computer skills with emphasis on Word and Excel.
