About the position

The Finance Manager at Health Alliance for Austin Musicians (HAAM) is responsible for overseeing the organization's financial operations, managing the operational budget, and ensuring accurate financial reporting. This role involves collaborating with the CEO and leadership team to support the financial health of HAAM, which serves over 3,000 working musicians in Austin. The Finance Manager will also manage relationships with external bookkeepers and coordinate the annual audit process, while providing clear financial guidance to various stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze and present financial reports in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Communicate monthly and annual financial statements clearly.
  • Collate financial reporting materials for all donor segments.
  • Oversee all financial, project/program, and grants accounting.
  • Accurately track and analyze expenses and revenue; advise leadership to ensure annual revenue exceeds expenses.
  • Work with the CEO and development team on budget proposals for grants and propose modifications as needed.
  • Review all accounting transactions for proper coding and record transactions within HAAM's accounting software.
  • Supervise HAAM's banking arrangements.
  • Manage organizational insurance needs with the CEO.
  • Prepare grant/project-specific monthly actual to budget reports and coordinate submission of approved reports.
  • Provide guidance to programs on their respective projects, grants, and contracts.
  • Coordinate and lead the annual audit process, liaising with external auditors and the finance committee.
  • Oversee and lead the annual budgeting and planning process with the CEO and leadership team.
  • Administer and review all financial plans and budgets; monitor progress and changes.
  • Manage organizational cash flow and forecasting.
  • Implement a robust contracts management and financial reporting system.
  • Update and implement necessary business policies and accounting practices.
  • Effectively communicate and present critical financial matters to the board of directors.

Requirements

  • 3-5 years related experience and/or training in finance/accounting.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in finance, accounting, or related field.
  • Strong preference for candidates with nonprofit accounting experience - at least 1 year.
  • Proficient in the use of QuickBooks and associated reports and other financial software applications.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products, including Excel/Google Sheets for financial data tracking and analysis.
  • Working knowledge of financial reports and forecasts, including cash flow projections.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of non-profit accounting in accordance with US GAAP.
  • Exceptional judgment, analytical, and financial management skills.
  • Ability to communicate complex financial information effectively to various stakeholders.
  • Experience with financial management and reporting related to private and government grants.
  • Acts ethically, responsibly, and with integrity.
