About the position

As a Finance Operations Specialist at Brigham Young University (BYU), you will be an integral part of the Continuing Education finance team, specifically supporting the BYU Online High School. This part-time position is designed for individuals who are committed to delivering exceptional service while ensuring financial accuracy. You will work closely with the Associate Controller assigned to Continuing Education’s Online Learning, as well as with the principal and administrators of BYU Online High School. Your role will involve providing financial support related to the student information system (SIS), which includes managing tuition payments, payment plans, financial aid, state vouchers, and sub-ledger accounting. In addition to these responsibilities, you will manage project accounting for online curriculum development and instructional design. This includes tracking costs, reporting, budgeting, and analyzing financial transactions. The position requires a keen attention to detail and effective communication skills, as you will be interacting with high school students, their parents, and various stakeholders within the university. The work environment is a general office setting on the Provo campus, and you will be expected to maintain professionalism and confidentiality in all financial dealings. Responsibilities

  • Assist the Associate Controller assigned to Continuing Education’s Online Learning.
  • Work closely with BYU OHS principal and administrators.
  • Provide financial support related to the student information system (SIS) including tuition payments and payment plans, financial aid, state vouchers, and sub-ledger accounting.
  • Manage project accounting for online curriculum development and instructional design including tracking costs, reporting, budgeting, and analyzing financial transactions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or business and one year of related work experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of accounting principles and use of related software.
  • Analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Knowledge and application of basic accounting principles (assets & liabilities, revenue & expense, and accrual accounting).
  • Competent in application of standard procedures and policy compliance for routine transactions.
  • Intermediate to high skill level in Microsoft Excel (i.e., filters, v-lookups, pivot tables, advanced formulas).
  • Proven successful experience managing multiple demanding projects and deadlines.
  • Professionalism, efficiency, and ability to maintain confidentiality.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or business plus 3-5 years of professional experience in bookkeeping or accounting; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
