About the position

The Town of Barrington, RI is seeking a Finance/Payroll Clerk to support the Finance Department. This role involves performing various administrative and clerical duties, including processing bi-weekly payroll, managing tax payments, and assisting with tax exemptions. The clerk will also prepare finance reports and provide customer service for the Finance and Tax Assessor's office.

Responsibilities

  • Process employee biweekly payroll, specialty pays, and payroll deductions through the PAYCHEX FLEX payroll system.
  • Collect payroll data and verify employee work hours and salary.
  • Oversee payrolls from all other Town Departments.
  • Maintain all payroll information and update payroll records by entering changes to employee information or benefits.
  • Issue earnings, deductions, and all other statements to employees as needed.
  • Update new tax tables every January.
  • Provide Salary Verifications of Employment as needed.
  • Run Quarterly payroll reports.
  • Upload all retirement contributions and provide required reports for Employees State Retirement System (ERSRI) of RI.
  • Provide EEO4 reporting annually.
  • Provide payroll information for Worker's Compensation Wage Statements as needed.
  • Resolve payroll discrepancies and address all employee payroll queries.
  • Maintain all payroll operations according to company policies and procedures.
  • Oversee the issuing of W2 forms annually to all employees.
  • Manage and update all ACA required reporting annually.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Provide administrative support, including responding to incoming calls for both Finance and the Tax Assessor's/Collections office.
  • Provide Customer Service for both Finance and the Tax Assessor/Collections Office.
  • Perform all other clerical/administrative duties as needed, such as emailing, scanning, filing, mailings, and greeting customers.
  • Provide salary information and benefits for budget preparation.
  • Assist with the intake of quarterly property tax payments for the Finance Department.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of three (3) years payroll experience.
  • Experience with PAYCHEX FLEX Payroll desired.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to work well with others.

Benefits

  • Annual salary range of $43,000-$48,000 based on experience and qualifications.
