About the position

The Finance & Planning Manager plays a crucial role in supporting the Vice President of Finance & Planning at Delicato Family Wines. This position is responsible for overseeing the development of the Strategic and Annual Plans, as well as managing financial reporting for the company. The Finance & Planning Manager acts on their own initiative to provide senior management with key insights into business performance, both actual and forecasted. This role is essential in communicating the strategic direction of the company to ensure alignment with operational goals, requiring the ability to convey clear direction across all levels of the organization. In terms of functional responsibilities, the Finance & Planning Manager manages day-to-day operations and team performance to ensure smooth workflows and adherence to company standards. They are tasked with fostering a constructive company culture, holding themselves and their team accountable for demonstrating positive behaviors that encourage a strong work ethic and an environment of trust and respect. The manager develops individual goals that align with departmental operational goals, ensuring that decisions and actions are in line with the company's vision and strategies. The role also involves researching best practices, staying updated on industry trends, and ensuring compliance with regulatory changes to improve operations continually. The Finance & Planning Manager assists in preparing the departmental budget, monitors spending, and directs the team in cost-effective operations to meet financial objectives. They work closely with their immediate manager to determine staffing needs and are responsible for attracting, motivating, and retaining a skilled workforce. Additionally, the Finance & Planning Manager plays a key role in the development of the Annual and Strategic Plans, managing central planning elements and ensuring that planning milestones are met on time. They lead workforce planning efforts, collaborate with finance leadership to prepare financial performance reports, and develop analytical capabilities within the finance group. The manager also drives continuous improvement initiatives and serves as a central contact between various finance groups, ensuring quality deliverables and proper information flow throughout the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Develop individual goals aligned with departmental operational goals.
  • Research best practices and stay updated on industry trends for compliance and operational improvement.
  • Assist in preparing the departmental budget and monitor spending for cost-effective operations.
  • Determine staffing needs and attract, motivate, and retain a skilled workforce.
  • Communicate and support change initiatives effectively to guide the team through transitions.
  • Foster a work environment that encourages creative thinking and drives innovation.
  • Address employee issues and ensure compliance with company policies and initiatives.
  • Coach and develop direct reports, engaging in the performance management process.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • 5+ years of direct experience in financial planning and/or accounting.
  • 1 year of supervisory or leadership experience.
  • Strong knowledge of financial ERP systems and automated planning tools (e.g., Hyperion, BPC, Cognos).
  • Excellent knowledge of financial and managerial reporting.
  • Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills, with the ability to work well with senior and mid-level management.
  • Solid analytical and computer skills, particularly in Excel.
  • Excellent communication skills and attention to detail, with proven problem-solving ability.
