About the position

The Finance Purchasing Clerk is responsible for supporting the efficient operation of the finance department by performing various purchasing functions. This role involves interacting with vendors, maintaining purchase orders, and providing customer service to other departments. The position requires a strong commitment to equity, social justice, and inclusion in all practices and responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Initiate contact with vendors.
  • Research and analyze comparative products and pricing.
  • Enter and maintain purchase orders.
  • Expedite and follow up on open orders.
  • Provide customer service to other departments regarding purchasing functions.
  • Correspond with vendors and suppliers.
  • Coordinate and maintain on-line and purchase card programs.
  • Process Request for Proposals (RFP's), bids and quotes.
  • Assist in evaluating competitive proposals and bids.
  • Coordinate asset inventory and disposal requirements.
  • Coordinate delivery, warehouse and inventory functions.
  • Maintain vendor files.
  • Correspondence and recordkeeping for risk management services (property and casualty insurance).
  • Provide daily and as-needed back-up for front desk/receptionist.
  • Assist with accounts receivable and cash receipt functions as needed.
  • Assist with finance department filing.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School graduate or equivalent (GED).
  • Two years experience or formal courses in accounting required.
  • Advanced accounting courses or specific work related-experience, preferably both.
  • Dependable and of good moral character.
  • Skilled in the use of computers and office equipment.
  • Experience with Excel and BusinessPlus preferred.
  • Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Ability to maintain records and files as required by the position.
  • Ability to communicate with staff members tactfully, with courtesy and work cooperatively on a team.
  • Ability to work independently and to be able to make decisions without direct supervision.
  • Previous experience as an account clerk preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with BusinessPlus software.

Benefits

  • Salary range of $17.67 - $21.96 per hour.
  • Full-time position with a 261-day calendar.
