About the position

The Finance Segment Manager position at Ryder is a pivotal role that leads financial analysis, planning, and data mining efforts for specific business segments. The incumbent will directly support the Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) team while coordinating with various departments to deliver comprehensive financial results. This role demands a detail-oriented, collaborative, and organized individual who possesses strong technical skills and agility to manage a diverse range of financial reporting, analysis, and modeling tasks. The primary focus is to provide timely, insightful, and actionable analysis of various business initiatives while supporting the financial reporting for the Region's segments. In this role, the Finance Segment Manager will manage the financials of assigned accounts and product lines. This includes overseeing monthly close activities, reviewing Profit and Loss statements, conducting cost and revenue accrual analysis, performing revenue reconciliations, and preparing journal entries. The manager will consolidate, prepare, and analyze financial data to understand cause-and-effect relationships and identify key drivers. Coordination with Operations, Finance, Accounting, IT, and Sales is essential to comprehend financial results and effectively communicate findings to upper management. The manager will also present close results, operational data, and forecasts to senior leadership, ensuring that all stakeholders are informed and aligned. Additionally, the Finance Segment Manager will lead various miscellaneous projects that may span one or multiple locations. This role includes providing coaching, reviewing, and delegating work to lower-level professionals, ensuring that the team operates efficiently and effectively. Periodic audits of operations will be conducted to ensure that appropriate controls are in place and functioning effectively. The position may also involve performing other duties as assigned, contributing to the overall success of the finance team and the organization as a whole.

Responsibilities

  • Manage financials of assigned accounts/product lines, including monthly close activities, review of P&Ls, cost and revenue accrual analysis, revenue reconciliations, and preparing journal entries.
  • Consolidate, prepare, and analyze financial data to understand cause-and-effect relationships and identify drivers.
  • Coordinate with Operations, Finance, Accounting, IT, and Sales to understand financial results and communicate findings to upper management.
  • Present close results, operational data, and forecasts to senior leadership.
  • Lead various miscellaneous projects spanning one or multiple locations.
  • Provide coaching, review, and delegation of work to lower-level professionals.
  • Conduct periodic audits of operations to ensure appropriate controls are in place and effective.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting and/or Finance required.
  • Master's degree in Accounting and/or Finance preferred.
  • Four (4) to Six (6) years of experience in Accounting/Finance or a related field required.
  • Advanced knowledge of financial concepts and principles such as operating margin, EBT, cash flow, balance sheet, cost of capital, depreciation, ROE, etc.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Detailed oriented with excellent follow-up practices.
  • Self-starter with the ability to derive innovative solutions with little direction.
  • Capable of multi-tasking, highly organized, with excellent time management skills.
  • Ability to present information and ideas clearly and understandably to others.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to create and maintain professional relationships within all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to influence internal and/or external constituents.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
  • Flexibility to operate and self-driven to excel in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.) advanced required.
