About the position

The Finance Specialist position at Girl Scouts Heart of Michigan is designed for individuals with a strong accounting background who are interested in contributing to the financial operations of a nonprofit organization. This role involves assisting with budgeting, financial tracking, and reconciliation activities, ensuring accurate financial reporting and supporting various departments within the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the budgeting process for multiple cost centers.
  • Help create a complex $7.4 million budget.
  • Run accurate financial reports for team members and managers as needed.
  • Assist in forecasting financial outcomes.
  • Track and reconcile fund development income, including diverse grant projects.
  • Reconcile fund development income exceeding $1.1 million annually.
  • Track grant spending accurately.
  • Train and support staff in budgeting and financial tracking across the council.
  • Reconcile bank accounts on a monthly basis.
  • Assist with data imports, exports, and analysis.
  • Track and reconcile program income of over $700,000 annually.
  • Prepare accurate financial statements in a timely manner.
  • Attend monthly finance committee meetings as requested.
  • Provide backup support for accounts receivable, accounts payable, and payroll functions as needed.
  • Participate in preparing information required for the annual audit.
  • Engage in department and council-wide meetings.
  • Promote Girl Scouting by participating in membership and program initiatives as requested.
  • Work cooperatively across all departments and assist in regional duties, including light cleaning.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Strong accounting background and analytical skills.
  • Experience in nonprofit organizations preferred.
  • Competency with relational databases and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Abila MIP accounting software.
