About the position

The Finance Supervisor at Kiewit Corporation serves as the primary point of contact for all accounting and finance needs at the project level. Each project is managed like a small business, with the Project Controller acting as the CFO, overseeing projects that can reach up to $200 million in size. This role requires direct interaction with project and district level management, providing essential insights into the financial health of various projects. The Finance Supervisor's responsibilities include evaluating construction job costs, conducting data reporting and analysis for management, budgeting and forecasting, and ensuring accurate revenue recognition. Additionally, the Project Controller is tasked with the training, development, and management of all project business staff, ensuring that the team is equipped to handle the financial aspects of their projects effectively. Kiewit's Industrial and Water Engineering Group plays a crucial role in influencing the successful outcomes of projects across various sectors, including Food & Beverage, Mineral Processing, Renewable Fuels, and more. The Finance Supervisor will lead project forecast reviews, utilizing historical and trending data to validate forecasts while adhering to company standards for cost and revenue reporting. This position also supports the Operations team by identifying, quantifying, and communicating financial risks and opportunities, thereby aiding in decision-making processes. The Finance Supervisor is expected to manage employee performance, prepare client invoicing, oversee accounts receivable and revenue, and review project cash flow projections monthly. Furthermore, the role involves understanding prime contracts and change orders, implementing internal controls, and acting as the main contact for financial audits. Continuous improvement and fostering trust and communication within the organization are also key aspects of this position.

Responsibilities

  • Leads project forecast reviews, utilizing historical and trending data to validate forecasts and follows company standards for cost and revenue reporting.
  • Shows eagerness to learn the ins and outs of the field operations to better understand and communicate financial reports and data.
  • Supports Operations team with decision making by identifying, quantifying, and communicating financial risks and opportunities.
  • Manages employee performance using the division of responsibilities, clearly communicates expectations and goals, and provides coaching and feedback during performance reviews.
  • Prepares client invoicing, manages accounts receivable and revenue, and reviews project cash flow projections on a monthly basis.
  • Reviews and understands prime contracts and change orders, including insurance, taxes, payment terms, and labor laws.
  • Follows and implements proper internal controls, and acts as the main point of contact for any internal or external financial audits.
  • Drives continuous improvement throughout the organization and advocates for positive change.
  • Earns trust, credibility, and buy-in of processes from the Operations team to create better cohesion and clear communication within the organization.
  • Displays first-rate customer service skills, willing to help with a positive attitude when/where needed.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in business administration, accounting, general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and tax.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or an equivalent degree.
  • Highly skilled in Microsoft Excel.
  • Previous experience with Finance Leadership Development Program is desired.
  • Effective communication (both oral and written), organization, and interpersonal skills are essential.
  • Strong work ethic and eagerness to produce high-quality results.
  • Ability to work independently, as well as part of a team.
  • High level of professionalism and standards.
