About the position

Serve as CTtransit's frontline leader in financial systems management, analysis tracking, and reporting to successfully deliver on established goals and performance expectations set forth by the Sr. Director of Finance.

Responsibilities

  • Proactively analyze, plan, document and drive the adoption/implementation of software modifications or upgrades including coordinating and troubleshooting with system vendors.
  • Day to Day administration of financially oriented software products including co-managing (with Sr. Manager) access for relevant systems, troubleshooting and custom reporting from said software, providing training, and instruction on the technical aspects of department systems, and assisting in maintaining the related databases.
  • Lead the technical implementation of large-sized projects which improve our ability to make better data driven insight.
  • Drive process improvement and productivity for all areas of Finance.
  • Provide ad hoc support to the Finance team during the month-end close process and reporting cycle.
  • Assist in monitoring overall financial performance against operations, administration, safety, reliability, and customer service goals.
  • Evaluate policies, procedures, and work processes to ensure safe, reliable, customer-focused, and cost-effective service.
  • Meet regularly with all partners to ensure that the financial applications are functioning as designed and supporting their needs.
  • Support Senior Financial Management team by conducting research studies and collecting data for managerial staff.
  • Prepare reports, presentations, and correspondence as assigned.
  • Perform other accounting or administrative functions as assigned by the Director of Finance.
  • Review and adhere to policy and procedures with the ability to suggest and implement process improvements.
  • Respond to inquiries for information from employees, senior leadership, and/or external partners as needed.
  • Experience supporting multiple teams in an office environment, including creating memos for multi-disciplinary groups and/or tracking/maintaining multi-dimensional budgets.
  • Assist in managing problems and emergencies involving any operations department or division on a 24/7 basis.
  • Assist customers with questions and concerns, resolves problems and conflicts modeling Ambassador skills in all interactions.
  • Work cooperatively with all levels of personnel.
  • Attend in-service training, seminars or other opportunities for professional development as made available by the Agency.
  • Provide training for Agency personnel as required.
  • Actively participate in staff meetings, trainings, etc.
  • Have thorough working knowledge of Agency policies and procedures, and collective bargaining agreements.
  • Assist in Managing the first steps of employee discipline.
  • Assist the Sr. Director of Finance and other departmental Managers with interview panels and departmental hiring decisions.
  • Serve as a backup to the Sr. Director of Finance or other Departmental Managers when needed.
  • Assist other departments and divisions as needed.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements

  • Minimum possession of a bachelor's degree with major course work in Information Technology, Accounting, Finance, Mathematics, Statistics, Analytics and five (5) years of highly relevant work experience is required.
  • An equivalent combination of education and highly relative work experience on a year for year basis may be substituted for the 4-year degree requirement.
  • Experience working in Financial Analysis, Financial Reporting Project Management or Business Analytics is required.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of leadership experience is required and two (2) years of experience at a senior/managerial level.
  • Experience managing in a union environment is preferred.
  • Ability to make decisions requiring independent judgment including the setting of priorities for performing work.
  • Excellent communication skills (especially verbal), interpersonal skills, tact, and diplomacy.
  • Ability to translate business objectives into technical requirements.
  • Organize and work on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw conclusions.
  • Prepare findings in reports, correspondence, policies, procedures, and other required documentation.
  • Ability to learn procedures that require a high degree of responsibility, accuracy, timeliness, and precision with advanced knowledge of MS Office 365 suite.
  • Ability to quickly learn, manage and train others on highly customized 3rd party and internal software programs, Power BI, SQL and Microsoft Visual Basic.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where limited standardization exists.
  • Microsoft Power BI or other analytics software/language experience is required.
  • The employee must be able to undergo a satisfactory security and credit check review.
  • Ability to prioritize projects and to work both independently and in a team environment.
  • A valid drivers' license is required.
  • Flexible availability including nights and weekends as needed to support a 3-shift 24/7/365 operation.
